Cy ~ Crochet Along & more

This week I have been working some more on my needle-felted Woodland character. I have had to change his name though, as everyone who saw him thought it was Oscar the Grouch as he is green too. I don't want my character to be 'similar' to anything already created, so I think I'll call him Brock. Hopefully that won't bring to mind any character already in existence.
I have given Brock a cheeky Mohawk hairstyle and will post pictures next week as he is feeling a bit 'exposed' at the moment.

 Free Form Crochet Bolero

I have been 'playing' with arrangements for the motifs on the bolero.
I'm piecing the back together first as it is the largest area to cover.
Here are a few motifs on my 'dummy'. The final placement may not be the same as this, and there are smaller 'filler' motifs to add to it too. I'll be making those specifically to fill a space as I need it.

I have started stitching some together in mesh style. This is probably going to be a long job, but it is quite enjoyable to do, rather like 'meander quilting', therapeutic.

Crochet Along Space Saver and Stash-Buster

Even though I have finished my crochet-along squares baby blanket, I am still doing more crochet things.
This is a plastic bag storage dispenser. It has elastic 'holes' at the top and the bottom. You scrunch and fold each plastic grocery bag up and push it into the hole at the top. When you need a plastic bag you pull one out from the bottom. Simple.
A hanging cord at the top keeps it off the workbench and out of the way, and within easy reach.
I know this idea has been around for a while but I've only just got around to making one for myself.

It was a good way to use up a couple of small balls of yarns.

All of these plastic into the dispenser

Have a great week.

Tuesday Stitchers - Slotting my post in after everyone this week. Sorry, thought I'd better not overlap into Judy's time slot.

Can't wait to see Brock with his new do! Is Brock short for Broccoli? Loved seeing your free form crochet. I'd seen free form knitting but not crochet. It's going to be beautiful!

You aren't supposed to even bring the plastic bags home! Take your own cloth bags to the store.

Your crochet gives me an idea. If there are any crocheted piece left from my Snowflake wallhanging, I could use them as the base for a shawl.

I can see that bolero is going to be to die for.
A mohawk for Brock, hmmm can't wait to see what he looks like now.
Great work on the bag dispenser. I need to replace the one I bought years ago and I figured I would be boring and sew one out of fabric...but then I don;t know how to crochet so sewing is good.

Your crocheted bolero is going to be lovely. Great idea to lay out the motifs on a dress form.

Oh, i love your bolero, Cy. It's going to be stunning. Looking forward to seeing Brock's mohawk.

I'm enchanted by your bolero designing. I can hardly wait to see that as a finish. What fun to wear it!

Thanks Judy. Good suggestion that 'Brock' is short for brocolli. Lol. I will run with that idea.

I know, plastic bags are such a dilema. I usually tell them at the check-out to put groceries straight back in the trolley because I have big plastic storage boxes in my car boot to put the food in. But my boys have been doing ALL the shopping lately. I should be grateful.
Great idea for your shawl & a good way to use those left over doileys.

I have seen those sewn bag holders in the shops and markets. That is where I got the idea from. I had hook and wool close by tho so I re-invented the wheel.
As long as its a good space-saver it doesn't matter how it is made.

Thanks Barbara. I need to get the shape right as it is made in one complete piece. Going around the armholes is going to be fun (naht).

Thank you Suz. Brock is still undergoing a hair transplant at the moment. Looking cheekier by the hour.

We shop where we check ourselves out. Wes & I have a good system now. He doesn't leave the house without the fabric bags. It's funny too because they are floral!

I wont actually wear it tho ad it is an item for my etsy shop when finished.

Cy, what's your shop address?

I'm very partial to crochet. That is very lovely.
