Barbara's June CQJP and Cabled Chain Stitch

I'm posting late as I had to help my daughter move yesterday.  She's moved into a very cute house with a girlfriend from work.  We're getting this moving kids thing down to a science.

I finished my June CQJP block early.  We had a couple of days of rain last week--heck it's raining now--so I just kept stitching.  Now that Mad Men and Game of Thrones are done for the season, I picked a new series to watch on my computer while I sew: True Blood on HBO, a campy vampire saga.  Tell me I'm not the only one who likes bad TV.

At the top of the block in pink is the cabled chain stitch, the TAST from last week, which I did in zig zag.

I did a bullion rose cluster above the cardinal.

I may re-do this pigeon's outline from feather stitch to something that stands out more, otherwise this block's done and I've reached season 2 of True Blood.

So many great little spots of interest! The roses are very pretty and I am partial to the vine & leaf arrangement on the left of the block too. Your hand disguise works too!

I like the way you camouflaged the attachment holes on the hand! Very nice! it fits organically into the design. Also love your bullion roses--I find those difficult to accomplish, so I'm admiring yours. Altogether a very pretty and masterful block!

Just looked back at how you achieved those buttonhole wheels--very nice! I'd missed the effect of those the first time around, but they are so full and nice! Like them!

Like how your red stitching compliments the central patch and gives the block balance. Some lovely seam treatments and gorgeous bullion roses. Great block.

I agree with everything written! I also really like the cable chain as a zig-zag. It adds more interest to the seam! When I first saw the pic, I thought, Wow! Very nice!

I've done the chain in zig zag but never thought to do the cable chain that way. It does look great, especially with the buttons. Your block turned out fabulous. I love the bullion roses!

I all looks wonderful but I am sure loving those bullion roses. Makes me wonder if they smell like roses!

I like how you emphasized the cardinal with stitching. It makes it very 3D now. Your bullion roses are definitely a hit.
Overall, a lovely block, and I still love that pigeon, lol.

Love this block, Barbara! The cable chain looks great zig zag, and I really like the addition of the buttons and pistil stitch (is that it?). Lots of eye candy on this block...great hand charm also. Lovely work!

I love the pigeon too, that's why I think he needs some highlighting.

I like bad TV, but more like Hercules and the Amazon Women (LOVE Kevin Sorbo!) or Buck Rogers. =) Your block looks beautiful, and I can hardly wait to see the whole thing together. Zig-zagging that chain was a great idea.
