Shisha Embroidery

It seems there has been some interest in giving the shisha embroidery a try on our blocks.

Here are a few links to guide you:

Anita's Method

Easy Shisha Embroidery Tutorial

Tutorial from Embroiderer's Guild

Shisha Embroidery on Flickr for inspiration (or crying, if you are so inclined)

Mirror Work  (There is one lesson for attaching the mirror & 4 lessons on how to make flowers--quite impressive, I think.)

Some Shisha work from Annie, one of Sharon b's friends

This little opportunity is nothing serious--just a nudge to try something new.  If you add some shisha to your block, comment here with the link.
I'll try to add some shisha to my May block.  How about you?

Thanks for all the links, Debra!

When I was looking for links, I saw a few references to the TAST 2007 with Shisha as one of the weekly stitches. So, it may very well show up on this year's TAST. To my way of thinking, it would have been a good one to follow the whipped wheel. I did see a number of examples where stitchers combined the shisha with the whipped wheel for a very nice effect.

Thanks for finding all these resources, Debra!

Shisha has to be included in my block and it's super that others are joining in the fun. Looking forward to viewing the links, thanks again Debra.

I could certainly see you doing that, Carol. I think I will try that too or make the shisha look like a flower.

As an aside, if you don't have a shisha mirror, there are alternatives (as Barbara showed with her religious medals) with one being a flat button.

As a card carrying member of SABLE I have a nice little tub of varying sizes of Shisha mirrors residing "somewhere" just waiting for this window of opportunity!

Well, shoot, wish you were nearby so I could nab a few!

That would be great and you'd be very welcome and perhaps I could take a peek into your Aladdin's Cave, sorry I mean your walk-in attic.

Thanks. I don't know if I'll be using it on this project, but I appreciate the links for when I'm ready.

I did a Shisha today.

I know I've got the little round shisha mirrors somewhere, but I was too impatient to go look for them in the big shipping container that I call my "craft box".
So .... I used .... well, I'll let you see for yourself when I put the pic on my blog tomorrow, but I will give you a little clue of what I did .... I had to use a hammer.

Can't wait to see!

I'm pretty sure I don't have any mirrors but I definitely have some flat buttons. I'm going to try to develop this month's button cluster to include a shisha or two.

Just ran across another tut for Shisha...

She also has a second part to this as well as some other stitches so be sure to look further.

Apologies that I didn't put pics on my blog as promised above. Had computer problems and everything kept freezing on me so couldn't upload anything. Through (long) process of elimination I discovered the problem was one of my external hard-drives, and it just had to be the one I keep all my pics on. I am not happy about that but have just about managed to save what I could but lost quite a few of the latest pics.
Will have to take more pics of my Shisha and will post on my Reveal this weekend.

I need to get to the store and get a back-up for my external drive! You have me worried. I have all my genealogy photos on it. I needed a push to do that before it is too late. Thanks. Understandable your pics will be delayed. Darned computers!

I had a computer die 2 summers ago and lost some pictures. I was something like $2000 to revive the hard drive. Really? I just bought a new computer. So, yea, backups are important.
